How To Get Ponsettia Blossoms at Christmas Time
Flowers at Christmas time - how it works
If you want to see blooming poinsettia at Christmas, you do not need special or expensive care. Only a few important rules should be followed.
In spring they should be cut back and then in the shade outdoors are at 1 / 3 to 2 / 3. After the beginning of August stop to fertilize. The poinsettia is a short-day plant and flowers only when it gets less than 12 hours a day light. Therefore, the poinsettia should be in complete darkness at night from October to mid-December. For example from 5 PM to 9 AM you can set an opaque pot on the poinsettia. The short light phases and conditions encourage the plant to form flowers. After six weeks the bracts should begin coloring up, then you can stop. Thus, the time for the Christmas season poinsettia can againblossom in full bloom.
The poinsettia may also begin to bloom without outside help, but probably not in time for Advent.
